AN EXTRAORDINARY HOTEL IN THE HEART OF BERLIN

Room with a double bed and special features in the Arte Luise

Staying in a standard hotel, vacation rental, or hostel? That was yesterday. Today’s visitors to Berlin are looking for something special. Some prefer rustic or vintage charm, others opt for modern elegance. Some choose a private apartment in Prenzlauer Berg or a guesthouse with a spa in Charlottenburg; others head to a countryside escape in Brandenburg or book a stay in an art hotel in Berlin Mitte. But everyone shares one wish: they want an extraordinary place to stay – something you won’t find in just any city. Luckily, Berlin has plenty of design hotels to offer – and one of the most remarkable is the Arte Luise Art Hotel.

STAY DIFFERENTLY AT THE ARTE LUISE ART HOTEL IN BERLIN

This art hotel is as unique as Berlin itself. You might spend your day admiring contemporary art at the East Side Gallery in Friedrichshain – and then continue your art experience back at the hotel. In 50 rooms, artists were given complete creative freedom, resulting in 50 original works of art. This unusual boutique hotel in the center of Berlin is often referred to as a “gallery to sleep in” and is one of the city’s most extraordinary places to stay.

Back in 1827, when the hotel was still a city palace hosting aristocrats and the upper class, the building was already a popular place to spend one night – or several. The hospitality remains, and since its renovation in 1999 and the addition of a modern extension in 2003, the hotel has once again welcomed guests with a passion for art and design. For food and drinks, visitors can enjoy the on-site HABEL am Reichstag restaurant and bar, which serves excellent cuisine. Alternatively, guests can find numerous cafés and restaurants nearby – perfect for enjoying breakfast or dinner outside the hotel and soaking in the true Berlin feeling.

50 UNIQUE ROOMS IN OUR ART HOTEL

No two rooms in this one-of-a-kind hotel are alike. Each room follows its own artistic concept, expressed in everything from the walls to the furniture – from the bedroom to the bathroom. Every corner of the hotel has been individually designed to make your stay as unforgettable as possible. Each visit reveals new designs to discover. Here are just a few of the most extraordinary rooms (all double rooms with private bathrooms):

Königssuite:

Artist Thomas Baumgärtel, aka the Banana Sprayer, dedicated this room entirely to the iconic yellow fruit. Heavy drapes, a golden chandelier, hardwood floors, and bananas sprayed on furniture and walls make a night in this room a truly unique experience.

Safari:

Step into this 20 m² room in the hotel’s historic building, designed by Dieter Finke, and you’ll feel like you’ve entered a lodge in Africa rather than a hotel in Berlin. Flaming imagery, animal sculptures, a shaman figure, and bedside tables made from tree trunks all spark a sense of adventure.

Cabaret:

Designed by Nathalie Daoust, this room is also located in the hotel’s historic section and channels the sultry atmosphere of 1920s Berlin, when erotic dance shows were all the rage. Red velvet and brocade, a bed draped in tulle, red lighting, and images of dancers on the walls make you feel like you’re spending the night in a burlesque club of that era.

Tribute to Edward Hopper (and Luise):

This room is dedicated to the famous American painter Edward Hopper. Berlin-based artist Volker März mounted reproductions of Hopper’s work on the walls to demonstrate that his philosophical art can live not only in museums, but also in hotel rooms. A perfect place to sleep – artistically.

Mauerspringer (Wall Jumper):

This room, equipped with a bathtub and air conditioning, is located in the hotel’s modern wing and was designed by Gabriel Heimler. His original “Wall Jumper” artwork is also featured at the East Side Gallery. But here, the jumper isn’t leaping from West to East – instead, he jumps “out the window” of the Reichstag and government buildings into the real world.

COLLECTORS CLUB

The Arte Luise Hotel began in 1995 as an artist residence and evolved from a creative project into one of Berlin’s most beautiful hotels. Today, it’s a hybrid of hotel and art association. And like any association, it needs members – guests who feel a connection to the space. That’s why the Collectors Club was created.

Club member benefits include:

  • Free cancellation until 3:00 PM on your arrival day
  • The best online rate – better than any booking portal
  • Credit earned with each stay – and a free night after 12 stays within one year

UNIQUE VIEWS IN BERLIN AND BRANDENBURG

When you’re staying in such a unique hotel, you’ll naturally want to make your Berlin experience just as special – and that means discovering the city from a different perspective. We’re happy to share our top recommendations for the best views of Berlin’s relatively flat skyline. Thanks to the hotel’s convenient location near Berlin Hauptbahnhof and Friedrichstraße station, you can quickly get around the city – or even take a day trip to Brandenburg.

For a spectacular city view, head to Potsdamer Platz and ride Europe’s fastest elevator to the Panorama Point. From there, enjoy the view of the surrounding high-rises and bustling Leipziger Platz. At the border of Mitte and Prenzlauer Berg, Zionskirche offers a lower but equally charming lookout from its church tower.

No list of viewpoints would be complete without Berlin’s highest one – the 368-meter-tall TV Tower at Alexanderplatz. It’s not the cheapest option, but it’s a must-see. For a slightly more affordable and unique view, visit the Park Inn Hotel across the square – where you can look straight at the TV Tower from a whole new angle.

In West Berlin, we recommend two standout spots in Charlottenburg: the viewing platform of the former listening station on Teufelsberg, and the rooftop Monkey Bar, where you can enjoy your drink while looking down into the monkey enclosure of the Berlin Zoo.

If you venture outside the city, Sanssouci Park in Potsdam also offers breathtaking views and beautiful walks in a historic setting.
