COOL HOTELS BERLIN: THE ARTE LUISE

A street with traditional German houses in Berlin Kreuzberg.

Cool people from all over the world come to Berlin – some for a few days, others for a lifetime. When visiting the capital, it’s not just about checking off the main tourist attractions, but also about strolling through hip neighborhoods like Kreuzberg, Berlin Mitte, and Prenzlauer Berg – discovering the trendiest shops, bars, and restaurants along the way. That leaves just one question: among the many cool hotels in Berlin – where should you stay?

COOL HOTELS IN BERLIN

No doubt about it: Berlin has a reputation for being one of the hippest cities in Europe. But for many visitors, that’s not enough. They want the full experience: not just sipping a green smoothie with avocado toast in the morning, finding a vintage denim jacket at the flea market in the afternoon, or dancing to techno in Berlin’s most famous clubs at night – they want to live the Berlin vibe. And that means staying in a hotel that fits the mood. A global hotel chain that looks the same everywhere? Or a no-frills guesthouse? No, thank you! It has to be something special. The best choice: a charming boutique hotel or a stylish design hotel with a focus on unique interiors and an unforgettable atmosphere.

A COOL BOUTIQUE HOTEL IN BERLIN MITTE

Berlin is full of cool hotels. Many visitors naturally want to stay somewhere central – so they can explore the city with ease. That’s where the Arte Luise Boutique Hotel comes in. With its artist-designed rooms, it’s the perfect fit for design lovers. But even those who simply don’t want to stay in an average hotel will feel at home in this design-forward space. Often referred to as a “gallery to sleep in” or a “museum for a night,” the hotel features 50 rooms, each individually created by a different artist – from emerging art students to internationally recognized professionals. No two rooms are alike, making guests want to come back again and again just to experience them all. And with free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel, you can share photos of your favorite room with friends at home – and maybe even book your next Berlin stay while you’re at it.

ART AS FAR AS THE EYE CAN SEE

The entire Arte Luise Hotel is dedicated to art. From the moment you enter the lobby, you’re greeted by sculptures and installations. The listed 19th-century staircase leading to the rooms is a “philosophical journey,” with quotes reflecting on the art of life. Even the hotel’s smoking lounge has been turned into an art installation.

Some of the most popular rooms are located in the Beletage, the Modern Living annex, and the Mansard. The Beletage impresses with four-meter-high ceilings, original wood flooring, and preserved doors and windows from 1827 – when the building was still a city palace that once hosted aristocrats. The Modern Living wing is located opposite the Federal Chancellery and offers rooms with unique views of the government district. This part of the hotel features a more modern aesthetic – but is just as comfortable. The Mansard rooms, on the top floor under sloped ceilings and exposed beams, offer a simpler, more budget-friendly option.

BERLIN SIGHTSEEING: FROM POTSDAMER PLATZ TO KURFÜRSTENDAMM

Start your day with a leisurely brunch in one of the cozy cafés in Prenzlauer Berg, the district right next to Berlin Mitte. Kastanienallee or Kollwitzplatz and its surrounding streets offer plenty of options. From there, take a walk to the legendary Alexanderplatz and hop on the train to the East Side Gallery – the longest preserved stretch of the Berlin Wall, now covered in artwork. Just like the Arte Luise Boutique Hotel, art is at the forefront here too.

The next S-Bahn or U-Bahn station is never far, and soon you’re in Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf in Berlin’s west. Visit the world’s most biodiverse zoo, or go shopping on Berlin’s most famous retail boulevard – the Kurfürstendamm. On your way back, make a stop at Potsdamer Platz, Berlin’s modern architectural hub, and stroll past the Brandenburg Gate as you return to the hotel.

End your sightseeing day with a relaxed dinner or drink at the hotel’s own Habel am Reichstag restaurant and bar, before settling in for a cozy night in your art-filled room.
