Arte Luise Kunsthotel – Your Hotel on The River Spree in Berlin-Mitte

Cities built along rivers are often shaped by them. Many of the most important sights, as well as popular restaurants and cafés, are located near the water. Green river promenades invite visitors to take a stroll, with benches offering the perfect opportunity to sit and watch life along and on the river. Hamburg has the Elbe and Alster, Paris the Seine, London the Thames – and Berlin the Spree. Our hotel is ideally located just a five-minute walk from the river. The perfect base for discovering Berlin on foot or by boat!
Arte Luise – An Art Hotel With History
The Arte Luise Kunsthotel has existed since the mid-1990s, originally under the name “Künstlerheim Luise.” The history of the building itself goes back even further. This grand neoclassical city palace has welcomed international guests for nearly 200 years. After an architectural expansion in 2003, the hotel now offers 50 individually designed rooms for guests with an interest in art. Each room is themed and bears the unique signature of a creative mind from the art scene. The artwork ranges from pop art to modern paintings and sculptures to installations – a broad spectrum of artistic expression.
A popular room in our hotel is Room 522, titled "Some Like It Hot", located in the historic main building. This Superior Double Room features a freestanding bathtub and was created by Heiner Meyer from Bielefeld, as a tribute to the legendary Hollywood star Marilyn Monroe. Meyer blends the figurative with the abstract, painting with photography. He juxtaposes different perspectives and settings in a single composition, leaving visual gaps where imagination can unfold. In Room 522, he plays with various facets of the icon Marilyn Monroe – from glamour to downfall – and references her many stays in hotels.
Another standout room in our unique hotel is Room 210, titled "Heartbeat – Home is where the heart is!" Located in the historic wing as well, it was designed by Berlin-based artist Kiddy Citny, known worldwide for his colorful heads on the Berlin Wall. With this room, he has created a true sanctuary of “heartfelt warmth” in the heart of vibrant Berlin. Alongside his signature heart-shaped faces and figures, guests can even listen to various versions of the song “Heartbeat” within the room.

Sightseeing Along The River Spree
The River Spree flows from the eastern Berlin district of Köpenick, through Mitte and Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf, all the way to Spandau in the west. Popular with tourists are the affordable boat tours, which take you past many of Berlin’s iconic landmarks and offer beautiful views of the city. You can begin a leisurely riverside walk right from our hotel, passing the Reichstag, Friedrichstrasse, Museum Island, Berlin Cathedral, and the Nikolaiviertel. The Brandenburg Gate and Alexanderplatz with its famous TV Tower are also just a short walk from the river and our hotel.
Walking through the Tiergarten – Berlin’s largest urban park – you’ll pass the Victory Column and reach City West, where you can visit the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, Berlin Zoo, KaDeWe department store, and Kurfürstendamm. To return, take the U-Bahn or S-Bahn – or continue a little further east along the Spree to the East Side Gallery, the longest preserved section of the Berlin Wall. Here, 118 artists from 21 countries have left their mark with murals. Directly opposite, you’ll find the Mercedes-Benz Arena, which hosts a wide range of events from concerts to sporting events. Nearby, you’ll also find a gym, international restaurants, and a cinema.
Dining at Restaurant HABEL am Reichstag
Berlin-Mitte has not only countless attractions to offer – it also caters to culinary enthusiasts. In addition to numerous international restaurants and cafés in the city center, our adjacent restaurant and bar HABEL am Reichstag serves modern regional cuisine paired with select wines. It’s not only hotel guests who dine here; politicians, media professionals, and Berlin locals also appreciate the restaurant’s excellent price-performance ratio. Whether for lunch, dinner, a snack in between, or a delicious breakfast to start the day – HABEL am Reichstag is a popular choice.
