A hotel as unique as the city of Berlin!
“This hotel is a boon to individualists,” writes the magazine Stern in its recommendation. “A place of refuge for art-oriented urban nomads,” writes 500 VERY SPECIAL HOTELS.
Opened in 1995 as an authentic Berlin artists’ project, the "Louise" has developed into a comfortable hotel. A charming hotel situated in one of the most exciting areas in the city center. A unique location in Berlin-Mitte with a view of the Reichstag building and the Spree River, just a few minutes walk to Unter den Linden and the Brandenburg Gate. The Friedrichstrasse subway station and the Hauptbahnhof rail station are within easy walking distance—the train practically runs past the hotel. The Chancellor’s Office and the Parliament building in the government district, the Charité and the ARD studios are all located nearby.
You may choose from a total of 50 single rooms, double rooms and suites housed in a carefully restored, neoclassical building dating from 1825 (listed monument) and a new extension with eye-catching architecture from 2003. The hotel rooms are comfortable, and in the bel-etage they are explicitly generous. They include shower or bath and TV, and in the new building the rooms are also fully air-conditioned with no openable special windows against noise. For us, complimentary wi-fi access throughout the hotel is par for the course
In the tradition of the “Künstlerheim Luise,” the legendary predecessor of the current hotel, a number of simple, very reasonable rooms are available in the mansard, which are equipped with centrally located, shared baths.
Over 50 artists have realized concepts specially designed for individual rooms of the hotel, creating places of retreat that set the mood for a visit to the museums or galleries in the art city of Berlin but that also offer guests a source of inspiration or quiet reflection.
The entire room is incorporated into an artist’s concept, including the furniture and any other accessories. No two rooms in the hotel are alike. Each room is unique, and the only thing that the rooms share is the high quality of the concepts behind each hotel room. We have been described as “a gallery where you can spend a night” or “a museum for a night,” which is not quite true, since most guests stay not just one night, but several.
Even upon arrival guests are greeted by sculptures and installations in the lobby. En route to a room in the historical building, guests pass through a sequence of philosophical passages on the walls of the stairwell. The entire building is dedicated to art. Even the smoker’s lounge has an artistic accent.
At the reception a young, competent team is at your disposal around the clock. The in-house restaurant “Habel” offers a breakfast buffet or a simple choice of coffee & croissants. From noon onward it serves regional and Mediterranean cuisine. Because of the hotel’s location in the heart of the government quarter, there is hardly a politician or journalist who is unfamiliar with this dining locale. Countless other restaurants, cafés and bars are within walking distance, as are theaters, revue shows and cabarets—and of course museums and galleries.
This combination of a truly unique location in Berlin-Mitte, the inspiring realization of diverse artistic concepts, and the pleasant, urban atmosphere of this small hotel makes your stay in the "Luise" an incomparable experience.
We look forward to welcoming you
